Saw one when I was back in Toronto, thought about how they are off road. Anyone know? I thought they might be a little big, but Land Cruisers and what not are a comparable size. Plus, the V8 might be nice.

Land Cruisers are a tad smaller. Sequoias are more meant to be like a Tahoe competitor. They can off road, yes, but a Land Cruiser or 4Runner will be more capable. IDK much about the 1st gen but the 2nd gen Sequoia had an optional center differential lock

They do alright. They are handicapped a little by lack of ATRAC or a locker.

My BIL has one for towing on road trips with the family and for confidence in the Michigan winters. Not exactly off roading, but he seemed happy with its abilities.

One of my buddies runs one;
I think they were looking for a family rig that was a little cheaper an different than the norm.

Had some spare time last week and thought it would be fun to take the V60CC to a terrain park just to see what it could do.
Off-roading isn’t really my bag and the V60CC is the First AWD (and somewhat lifted) vehicle I’ve ever owned. According to the internet the AWD system is at least as good as an Outback possibly better so I’d imagine it could do ok on some of the easier trails.
How out of place would I feel?

I'm sure it would be fun as long as you pay attention to your ground clearance and avoid scraping things.

They’re a bit bigger than a land cruiser, built on the Tundra platform and aimed at the Tahoe market. They’re a better tow vehicle than a land cruiser.
As HHFP pointed out, they don’t have an E locker or ATRAC in the back (just an LSD) , so they’re more like any other stock 4WD 1/2 ton pickup or SUV off road. Fine for moderate stuff like a poorly maintained for est road on a rainy day, but you’re not going to go very far rockcrawling or running real technical trails with one.
I think they’ve been a bit ignored by the off road enthusiast community in part because they were a damned expensive family truckster new and they retained a lot of value used for number of years.

Un less you’re starting with a Rubicon, a Raptor or one of the other newer vehicle oriented to offroad driving that has trick stuff like locking diffs from the factory (nothing wrong with that if you got the cash for a newer ride and don’t mind seeing a million just like yours all the time) i t doesnt really matter what you START with. Buy whatever, wheel it until you find some weak points or break something, upgrade, rinse, repeat until you’re poor.

The 05-07 has an upgraded engine & transmission and gains a proper Torsen center differential. They’re a bit big and unwieldy for crawling but for an overland + some off-road stuff they’re not a bad choice.
